Himalayan Sound Therapy FAQ
-
Himalayan Sound Therapy is a vibrational healing technique that utilizes the resonant sounds of Himalayan singing bowls to support relaxation and deep healing. Using authentic handmade bowls from Nepal, our bowls are made from a blend of metals producing harmonic sounds tuned to the earth’s frequency that help clear energetic blockages in the body and facilitate emotional and physical healing. Played both surrounding and directly on the body, the sound waves permeate the body's cells and tissues, supporting chronic pain relief, and enhancing energy flow.
-
Sound therapy helps us reach a theta brainwave state; this state, often experienced during meditation and deep relaxation, allows for access to the subconscious mind, facilitating emotional healing, creative insights, and a sense of calm and well-being. Sound therapy helps to reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, and promote mental clarity.
It can also support physical healing by moving energy blockages, increasing blood flow, enhancing our immune systems, and lowering blood pressure. These effects help to reduce tension in the body, alleviate chronic pain and improve headaches. Sound therapy is a powerful mindfulness tool to connect with the deepest parts of ourselves.
-
Studies have found that sound healing can have a positive impact on the nervous system, help lower cortisol (the stress hormone), and increase alpha brainwave activity associated with relaxation. Some research has also suggested that sound therapy can promote physical healing by improving blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, as well as reduce pain and muscle tension.

Yes! Your practitioner can customize sound therapy sessions to your physical and emotional needs, as well as your personal intentions for healing and growth. While sound therapy is generally safe, there are some individuals who may need to exercise caution or avoid the practice entirely:
Pregnancy: Pregnant women should consult with their healthcare provider before undergoing sound therapy. Group sound healing and 1:1 sessions where bowls are played surrounding the body are generally safe, however bowls should not be played directly on the body if you are pregnant. Sound therapy is a very effective healing practice for the postpartum period.
Severe mental health conditions: Those with conditions such as schizophrenia or certain forms of epilepsy may experience overstimulation from the sound vibrations, so a consultation with a mental health professional is recommended.
Severe heart conditions or pacemakers: People with severe heart conditions or implanted medical devices (like pacemakers) should seek medical advice before receiving sound therapy. Bowls will not be played directly on the body for participants with pacemakers.
Recent surgeries or fractures: Sound therapy may not be suitable for individuals with recent surgery or fractures in areas that may be affected by vibrations. If you have had a recent surgery or fracture, you should seek medical advice before receiving sound therapy. Sound therapy is highly effective for physical healing including bone/nerve healing and growth once cleared by a medical professional.

While sound therapy is generally safe, some individuals may experience mild side effects, such as emotional releases or temporary dizziness. This can be part of the body's natural healing response to the vibrations. If you feel discomfort or unwell at any time during the session, inform your practitioner immediately. Most side effects are temporary and fade soon after the session.
At the end of a sound therapy session, take your time to slowly sit upright and come back to your body. You may require additional time to sit and relax prior to driving. Please do not rush and inform your practitioner if you need a quiet space to continue to relax.

Yes, sound therapy complements other wellness practices, such as massage, reiki, meditation and acupuncture. It can also have many positive effects when combined with traditional medical treatments. It is always recommended to discuss with your healthcare provider if you are undergoing other treatments, particularly for chronic conditions or if you are pregnant.
-
After a sound therapy session, it is very important to stay hydrated! Hydration helps the body release toxins that may have been unearthed and are in the process of being released during the session. It's also recommended to rest, meditate, spend time in nature, or engage in light activities following a session. Often people find that they feel grounded and centered after the session, so allowing yourself some quiet time to integrate the experience will enhance the benefits.
-
The amount of sound therapy sessions you need depend on your personal healing and wellness journey. For those dealing with chronic stress, pain, or emotional imbalances, regular sessions are beneficial. For general relaxation and wellness, sessions can be spaced out once a month or as needed. Your practitioner will provide guidance based on your specific needs.
